Hovinbekken won the Oslo City Architecture Award 2023

Hovinbekken

Every autumn, Oslo City's architecture prize is awarded, and the competition is fierce. This year it was the reopening of the Hovinbekken from Hasle to Ensjø that was honored for new and good architecture. "The Hovinbekken at Ensjø meets all the quality criteria for outstanding landscape architecture, innovative and sustainable solutions, with high-quality concept and execution. This is a project that manages to add something big to the city, both aesthetically, functionally and culturally," the justification states, among other things.

From Hasle it is not far to Økern, and we can only look forward to this stream opening all the way past Økern. The Hovinbekken shows how urban development leads to working with the city's qualities in new ways. And by following the stream up from Gamlebyen, it is easy to understand why Hovinbyen is Oslo's chosen idea for expanding the city. A large number of new homes are built in an urban manner, i.e. fairly densely, while emphasis is placed on green and blue qualities that create attractive living environments. In this way, the city gets room for more people, in places where it is good to live.
